PFAS
I currently serve as Vice Chair on Fairfield’s PFAS Committee.
The presence of PFAS contamination in Maine is alarming for both families and farmers whose livelihoods and incomes depend on their land. In Fairfield, we are at the tip of the spear regarding how PFAS impacts both health and agriculture, while also still struggling with how best to address contaminated land.
As a homeowner, I have been personally impacted by PFAS. Upon retirement from the Navy, I purchased my forever home, only to find out the only thing that’s “forever” is the chemicals in the soil and groundwater. Our well water (and perhaps the soil) is contaminated at levels over ONE THOUSAND PERCENT higher than the State of Maines’s safe acceptable limits. This is an issue that is literally at our doorstep. I vow to fight for what is right in ensuring options and resolutions are in the best interest of all of those who have been impacted.
